Why Your Bathroom Heater Shouldn’t Feel Like a Heat Lamp at a Zoo
Ever stepped into a bathroom with one of those infrared heaters and felt like you were being stared down by a miniature sun? Most of these lamps use short-wave infrared to get you warm instantly. That part works great. But the glare? That’s the problem. Standard halogen tubes pump out a ton of visible light and UV rays. It’s harsh on the eyes, and if you’ve got a baby in the house, it’s even worse since their eyes are still developing. We figured out a way to fix that without losing the heat. The trick is in the coating. We don’t just use a plain glass tube. We use special quartz coatings that act like a filter. Think of it as a gatekeeper: it blocks the aggressive blue light and UV rays but lets the infrared warmth slide right through. Instead of that piercing, clinical white light, you get a soft, warm glow. You still feel the heat on your skin, but your eyes can actually relax. It’s also about how we build the thing. If you cram too much power into a tiny space, the filament gets way too hot. When that happens, the lamp starts spitting out more visible light and less heat. Not ideal. We spend a lot of time tweaking the filament length and voltage. We keep the temperature in a “sweet spot” where the lamp prioritizes warmth over brightness. The trade-off (and why it’s worth it) Now, here’s the honest part: these filters do make the lamp a bit less “bright.” But in a bathroom, that’s actually a win. Nobody wants a spotlight on them while they’re brushing their teeth. The only catch is that because the light is softer, you can’t cut corners on the reflector. A cheap reflector will scatter the heat, leaving you with annoying cold spots. That’s why we use high-purity aluminum. It keeps the heat focused and dense, so you stay warm, while the light stays gentle.
