Keeping Your Chicks Warm Without Blinding Them
When we started designing waterproof infrared heaters for chicken coops, we were trying to fix one annoying problem: how do you keep baby birds warm without stressing them out? Most standard heat lamps are just too much. They blast this high-intensity light that messes with a chick’s internal clock and, frankly, can actually damage their eyes. It’s like trying to sleep with a spotlight pointed right at your face. The secret is in the light. We don’t just plug in a bulb and call it a day. We use specific quartz coatings and tweak the tungsten filaments to filter out those harsh blue peaks. The result? A “soft light” that feels natural. You get all the warmth the birds need to thrive, but without that blinding glare that causes ocular distress. They stay cozy, and their eyes stay safe. Built for the chaos of a coop Let’s be honest—chicken coops are gross. They’re dusty, damp, and generally a mess. That’s why we seal everything with heavy-duty gaskets. Whether you’re hosing down the coop or dealing with heavy condensation, water isn’t getting inside. We also wrap the heating element in a tough quartz glass tube that won’t corrode over time. And because livestock can be clumsy (and aggressive), we use reinforced brackets. These things don’t budge, even when the coop gets hectic. A few things to keep in mind Here’s the thing about high-wattage lamps: they put out a ton of heat, but they can create some nasty hotspots. If you hang the lamp too low, you’re risking scorched birds. You’ve got to get the mounting height just right based on your wattage so the heat spreads out evenly. Plus, we know things break. It happens. So we used standard connectors. When a bulb finally burns out, you can just pop a new one in. No rewiring, no headaches, just a few seconds of work. There’s always a tug-of-war between heat and light. If you crank the voltage too high to get more warmth, the light starts getting harsh again. We’ve spent the time calibrating the voltage so you get the best of both worlds: high heat and soft, safe light.
